kayaking, canoeing, rafting and pubs

Hi,

We will be traveling from Edinburgh to Isle of Skye in early August of this year. It will be my husband, our 13 year old son and me. We will have two to three days between Edinburgh and Skye. We have some experience in a canoe and raft but not much in kayaks, especially in big water. We would love to spend the day canoeing, kayaking, hiking or rafting and the evening in a warm pub, possibly with music. In the alternative, we would also consider a rustic lodge, keeping with the outdoor activity theme. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Sounds like Perthshire to me!

Try here with these guys - used and recommended. http://www.naelimits.co.uk/about.cfm

Dunkeld and Birnam have some excellent pubs, eateries and shops and a good chance of live music here http://www.thetaybank.co.uk/

again tried and tested and most recommended.

Raasay House is booked solid for our dates but looks fantastic. We will save the information if we are ever lucky enough to return. Thanks.

Looks like Nae Limits is also booked. Glad outfits like that are doing so well as it sounds like a terrific experience. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

what a shame they're all booked up ... have you tried asking them if they can make suggestions of other places, there might be a "grapevine" of recommendations

I have just come back from a few days sea kaying in Plocton which is near Skye which might suit you. Anne french ( sea kayakplockton) has a guide/instructor business (working with small groups) i highly recommend. i went with my 17 year old son. Plockton is very beeautiful, a small place with a couple of good pubs which have music one on Wed and one on Thurs night. Lots of bed and breakfasts or small hotels and the whole place has a very relaxed feel and great seafood. The only problem would be what is her minimum age.- no fine just checked 13 see seakayakplockton.co.uk/sea-kayak-skye-famili…
