car rental

We will be arriving in Glasgow for a 2 week stay in Scotland. Plan on spending the first 2 nights in Glasgow and then will head to Skye via Loch Lomond and Glencoe. Should we pick up car on arrival at airport and park at bed and breakfast in the west end for a modest fee or pick up rental on day we leave the city? Planning on using subway and busses while touring in Glasgow.

You won't really need the car in Glasgow and will save yourself a couple of pounds no doubt by hiring it later.

Depending where you are staying there is lots of on street parking in the west end at no charge.

Not much point in renting a car to have is parked up for two days is there? Mind you sometimes it can be cheaper or a similar price to rent for 7 day periods so you would need to check that out. If it didn't cost more and parking was cheap or free then it might be more convenient to get from the airport.

Thanks for your reply. Also planning on dropping off the car when we arrive in Edinburgh for the last 3 nights of our stay.

I've hired cars from Celtic Legend (a broker for Arnold Clark) on two different trips. On their website, they show that a week rental costs the same as 5 days at the normal rate. I'm certain that they have locations at both Glasgow and Edinburgh Airports, but have no idea what the charge might be to pick up at one and drop off at the other. Its worth checking out at

Can't see the point of renting a car and parking for two days. Also, sorry if you already know this but if you need an automatic you'll need to specify that or you won't get one.
