Oban in October

Hi, we are planning to visit Oban in October half-term (25th Oct onwards) and I'm hoping we will be able to visit Tobermory and Staffa - do the boat trips/ ferries run all year around? Thanks in advance x

I think the people living in Iona would be annoyed if they didn't.

Check http://www.calmac.co.uk/ (who run all the relevant ferries) for routes timings and prices, or contact them if you're uncertain.

Thanks, thought it might be a stupid question when I posted it!! We are travelling with my father-in-law, however, who is very keen to visit both of these places and I had a moment of panic that we wouldn't be able to because of the time of year...

Thanks again!

Ferries are generally all-year.

The specialist boat-trips you can book to take you whale/bird-watching, or to see Fingal's Cave operate mainly in the April - October period, weather permitting. Contact any of the companies you see that look right and ask if they're still planning to do these trips on your dates.

But by that time of year the weather will be as big a determinant of what you do.

Enjoy anyway - fabulous places!

Thanks for the reply - fingers crossed for good weather! Have contacted Calmac and they are still finalising their winter timetable so not sure yet...

You will definitely be able to visit Tobermory by regular public transport. Bowmans operate service buses on the island which meet some - but not all - ferries at Craignure. One service heads north to Tobermory, the other heads south to Fionnphort for Iona.

As has been pointed out, Staffa may be more problematic.
