will the calmac ferries be running across to mull etc ?

will there be any day trips from Oban at all ?? or is it seasonal and ends in October ??

Hi.

Yes ferries still run, the people of Mull would be essentially stranded all winter if they didn't!

The winter timetable for the upcoming winter is not yet available, but it will be similar to last years - calmac.co.uk/timetables/…

Some attractions and accommodation will be closed for winter, but there will be places open.

Enjoy!

Abs :)

No day trips by then, but if you have a car and are lucky with the weather it will be OK.

The weather probably won't be great, and daylight hours will be short, but there is unlikely to be snow and you can still have an enjoyable break at that time of year.

When you say "are there day trips?", I take it you mean organised tours? You don't need one to see some of the area. You can day trip to Tobermory on Mull by ferry and public bus. Typically, you can get the 10am sailing and enjoy the amazing views as you leave Oban bay, head on past the tip of Lismore, and into the sound of Mull past Duart castle. Then you can get a connecting bus to Tobermory which takes about an hour, so you should arrive about Noon. Have some lunch, wander along the seafront, walk out to the lighthouse or into Aros Park, then get the return bus at about 3.45pm which connects with the 5pm ferry back to Oban. The winter timetables for ferry or bus are not published yet, but the above should be possible.

You can also walk to Dunollie castle, just outside Oban - according to the Visit Scotland website it is open all year round, but has "limited opening" from October to December.
