Oban for 2 nights

Have just booked 2 nights in Oban (family with 2 children of 13 and 10) and would like some suggestions:

- We will be leaving Edinburgh in the morning and drive towards Oban. What route do you recommend we take in order to enjoy the day with some sightseeing and stop overs for lunch etc?

- On the first day at Oban our idea is to enjoy Oban and possibly drive round. Any suggestions for places to visit/things to do which might be interesting for my children's age as well? Or just stay in Oban?

- following the 2nd night we will be driving north, passing through Glencoe on the way to Fort William, so ideally we would visit other places on the previous days.

Your suggestions would be really appreciated!

thank you.

You'll be heading towards Stirling, so you could visit Stirling Castle? Callender might be a nice stop off for lunch? Before you get to Callender you might want to stop at Blair Drummond?

Around Oban, there's Dunstaffinage Castle as well as Oban Distillery. You might want to take a trip round Oban distillery? Or take a boat trip? More ideas at the web link below

There's the Scottish Sea Life Sanctuary: http://www.sealsanctuary.co.uk/oban1.html

Several companies offering boat trips to see seals, birds etc.

A visit to the Oban Chocolate Company is a must: http://www.obanchocolate.co.uk/ (they do kids workshops at times, nothing mentioned for the coming summer, but get in touch with them too hear if they've got any plans on doing such a thing during your stay).

The leisure centre might offer something your daughter might fancy: http://www.atlantisleisure.co.uk

Several castles in the area: http://www.oban.ws/castles.html

There is a scenic drive through Loch Lomond area which is very beautiful and has some good hikes, etc. The Oban distillery is worth stopping in for the tour unless you've already seen some distilleries. I don't think you can take a personal car to Iona, which is not a big deal as there's not far to go and it's all easily walkable. A day on Iona is probably lots, although a few days are a nice break with no cars and some nice hikes and views.
