Lunchtime eating near Waverley Station

Coming from different directions, my husband and I will be meeting my daughter and her 2 girls at Waverley Station then spending about 3 hours together before going off on different trains again. This will be on Sunday, 14 Feb. (Valentine's Day, although that doesn't have to be relevant to this query). Please can you recommend a good place to eat - relaxed, comfortable, non-stressful, which is close to Waverley and which we'll all enjoy. The 2 girls are 13 and 5 - the older one eats like the proverbial horse and the younger one's small appetite means she is happy to have a share of adults' meals. As it'll be lunchtime we aren't looking for fine dining but neither do we want fast-food burger-chain type food - just somewhere nice with a good ambience, hopefully of a bohemian sort. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Do you like Chinese? Jimmy Chung's Chinese Buffet is at the top of the ramp at Waverley. Very relaxed and child-friendly.

Just seen where you come from so you may wish a rest from tapas!Howies in waterloo Place is well regarded for family meals , good quality at affordable prices. To get there walk up to princes Street , turn right , past the Balmoral Hotel , over the road into waterloo Place and hpies is on the left side about 30 yards up

Howies will be bookings only (it is 14th Feb) - as will all the non-buffet restaurants with the probable exception of the one at the top of John Lewis

Try the Cone on George street, only a few minutes walk from the station - really lovely building/ decor and decent food. http://www.thedomeedinburgh.com/

I love Bar Roma-if you get off the trains at Haymarket instead.

ditto Howies if you can get a table. The Doric bar and bistro is nice, not sure about the children though. Turn left towards Cockburn st and its in front of you, just opposite a side entrance to Waverley. Cafe Royal is close and does excellent seafood. Check their website.

Hello to everyone who replied so promptly - thanks for all the info./advice etc. - very useful and helpful as don't want to spend time trailing around looking for somewhere, especially if kids are "champing at the bit". All sound good in different ways so will do some research (have been away from Spain since October, so definitely not sick of tapas) and take the advice to book up, if appropriate. Thanks so much.

Saigon Saigon on the corner of S. St Andrews Street and Princes Street is a somewhat more authentic Chinese restaurant than Jimmy Chungs or the place at Omni Centre. Serves dim sum.

Haven't been there for some time, but based on previous experience and your requirements, I would recommend Viva Mexico on Cockburn Street.
