a bus from Edinburgh to Glasgow

Hello,

My mother and I are supposed to arrive to Edinburgh airport on Saturday, the 24th of July.

Our goal is to arrive to Glencoe from Edinburgh at the same day we arrive to Edinburgh. We are planning to take a bus via CityLink from Edinburgh to Glasgow, and then from Glasgow to Glencoe.

I'll be happy if you could answer the following questions:

1.From which station in the city of Edinburgh should we get to Glasgow? And to which station? We want it to be the same station from which we'll departure to Glencoe.

2.What is the best kind of transport we should take in order to get to the station in Edinburgh from which we'll departure to Glasgow? How much will it cost?

3.Is there a bus station in Edinburgh which is called 'Buchanan station'?

Thank you! I'll be really glad if you could answer me soon!

Hi and welcome,

3. Buchanan Street bus station is in Glasgow.

It is very near Queen Street station where trains from Edinburgh arrive.

2. Bus or train. There might be a bus from Edinburgh airport to central Glasgow.

That site will help you plan your trip.

1. Stations in Edinburgh - Waverley or Haymarket.

Station in Glasgow - Queen Street.

Trains don't run to Glencoe, but they do go near there, eg Tyndrum, Bridge of Orchy, Fort William. The train journey is very scenic (as is the bus), but you would need more transport from those stations the 20 miles or so to Glencoe.

This is a remote, wild part of Scotland.

You may find it easier to organise if you overnight in Glasgow, and then the next day head for Glencoe. Its a 3 hour journey.

You can take the airport bus from Edinburgh Airport to Waverley Bridge in Edinburgh.

It is then a 5 minute walk to the bus station In St.Andrews Square.

There is a very frequent Citylink service from there to Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow where you can get a bus to Glencoe.

What is your actual destination?

If you look at the route of the Airport bus you will find that it stops at several places before it reaches the centre of Edinburgh. If you check the route of the Edinburgh - Glasgow bus you will find that many of the places it stops are the same as for the airport bus. So if you get off the airport bus at one of these stops and cross the road you can save yourself a trip into Edinburgh

I think what kenko92 was wanting to know is where are you planning to sleep at Glencoe. Glencoe is a valley with big hills, it is not a town.

There are some hotels and hostels such as Clachaig Inn in Glencoe but if you planning to go there you probably should have made a booking by now.

Perhaps you are sleeping at Ballachulish? Do you have a hotel booked?

If you are heading for Glencoe village or Ballachulish you need the Citylink coach from Glasgow. Here is the timetable: http://www.citylink.co.uk/timetables/Summer10/Glas2Skye(v2).pdf

Hi,

I do have a hotel booked, and as far as I know it's not in Ballachulis, it's in Glencoe.

I booked a room in 'The Glencoe Hotel':

Thanks again for your help

This hotel is in Glencoe Village, north of Glencoe. The bus mentioned in post #6 stops nearby.

You can get a through ticket on Citylink from Edinburgh to Glencoe - this timetable shows the connections:

There is a direct bus from Edinburgh, but probably leaves too early for you.
