Christmas lunch in Edinburgh

We are staying at the Premier Inn in Millburn Road in Edinburgh and would like to find a suitable place for Christmas lunch. Having done a bit of research on past suggestions, our budget will not cover The Balmoral so something a bit cheaper, say 40-50 pounds per person (no wine) maximum would be great and within walking distance from our hotel. We are reasonably fit so a good walk is not daunting.

Also, can you give me an idea what is a traditional Scottish Christmas lunch? And what time is it usually served?

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

The ridiculous cost of lunch on Christmas day is not because of the spectacular quality of the food! You are paying around 2-3 times the normal price for the meal mainly due to the cost of getting staff to work on this day- they get double or triple time as this is one day where almost the whole country (except medical staff) would expect to be off work.

BROWNS in George Street is quite nice. Really friendly place and their Christmas Day lunch is £60.00
