balmoral castle

Hi can anyone help me, we are thinking of going to balmoral castle in april but need to stay at a cheap but decent hotel there are 3 adults and i am finding it very hard to get a hotel within our budget that sleeps 3 in a room. Also can anyone tell me how far the castle is from aberdeen town center and the best way to get there as we are not driving. thanks

You may get a better response if you post this in the Aberdeen forum

Balmoral is about one and half hours from Aberdeen.

Balmoral Castle is about 8 miles from the village of Ballater and where you will find the Glenernan Guest House. They have a triple room there which I know about because family members used it last year when they came to visit me.

Details are here http://www.glenernanguesthouse.com/ and Trip Advisor reviews here tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g190738-d9696…

Ballater is easily reached by the 201 bus from Aberdeen and if you speak to the driver he will tell you where to alight nearest to the guest house. Balmoral Castle can also be reached by the 201 bus and you must alight at Crathie Car Park.

I have no idea about costs of bus rides but timetables for this year at least may be found here. www.stagecoachbus.com/localdefault.aspx

Do take plenty of change because I do not think the bus drivers are given much of a float and are pleased if you have a good supply of cash.

Going to Ballater would certainly get you much closer to Balmoral than staying in Aberdeen and I am sure the Glenernan Guest House would suit your needs, rather than a hotel which in Aberdeen can prove expensive and hard to find during the week.. The oil business booms in Aberdeen and as a consequence, accommodation can be scarce and expensive too.

By the way, you are aware that the only room at Balmoral Castle which is open to the public is the Ballroom? Whilst there are exhibitions in the stables area and nice walks in the grounds and gardens, the rest of the castle is closed to the public. http://www.balmoralcastle.com/
