what is there to do on an evening for children

We are coming to Edinburgh for a couple of days at the end of October. This will be our first visit and we are only staying for 2 nights. On the 2nd day we plan to go to the races at Musselburgh, but I was wondering what there is to keep the kids entertained on an evening. 13 year old girl & 9 year old boy. Boy is mad about horrible histories Girl likes to shop. Help!!

There is a horrible histories city bus tour that would appeal to your son though don't think they run in the evening.

Most of the shops in the centre are shut by 6pm but if you catch the 22 bus to Ocean Terminal I think the shops are open a bit later (8pm ish). Check their website for more info. There is also a cinema and a choice of restaurants for those that don't want to shop....oh and Brittania is there too if that is of interest to you.

For other evening things you could try Fountain Park for bowling or cinema. This is also on the 22 bus route(opposite direction from Ocean Terminal but slightly closer to Princes Street) and has a Pizza Hut.

Check lothian buses for more bus info.

The above are good suggestions, but shopping centres, cinemas and bowling are in no way unique to Edinburgh.

How about one of the Ghost/Underground tours around The ROyal Mile... They run into the evenings, and would definitely satisfy the Horrible Histories interest... It is fascinating seeing the old vaults and imagining life in the slums of Medieval Edinburgh... Don't get more horrible and historical than that!

Abs :)
