Leaving luggages @ Waverley for a few hours

We will be arriving in Waverley at 12:15 on 29Dec. And it's forecasted that the sunset will be at 15:59.

Thus, we are wondering if we should get a quick lunch in or near the train station and make Scott Monument our first stop, before heading to the hotel.

And if we do so, we wonder if it's a good idea to leave our luggages in Waverley for a few hours instead of heading to our hotel, Apex City (Grassmarket) and then back to Princes Street area.

We found this left baggage info from http://www.left-baggage.co.uk/locations.php.

Is that the only option?

Or do you recommend that we head to the hotel and park our luggages?

We didn't want to waste the daylight on checking when it's alright for us to do it later in the afternoon.

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Even after checking in by say 13.00 you would have 3 hours to kill before it gets dark. Plenty time for the monument and lunch somewhere like the Royal Mile.

Take a cab from the station to the Apex. Will be about £5-£7.

It is up to you if you want to pay £7 each for your bag(s)- for £7 you could jump in a taxi to your hotel and be there in 5 minutes to drop off your bags there. It is a 10-15 minute walk back to the Scott Monument from the Grassmarket. At busy times there is often a queue at the left luggage place at the station which would use up your valuable daylight too.
