50th Birthday Restaurant/Night life recommendations

Hi, 5 of us (girls) are coming to Edinburgh next weekend. We are looking for somewhere central to eat on Saturday (not too expensive £20-25 for main meal approx). The Wedgewood looks nice with good selection but if fully booked does anyone have any other recommendations? Or possibly we could go for lunch as sometimes better value at the more expensive restaurants or an early meal as we are looking to go on either Mercat or Witchery Tour.

Also where do ladies over 40 go for night life?

On other forum question people have said Tigerlily on George Street is good for cocktails; Dragon fly cocktail bar and Club Room at The Dome. But are there any other pubs or nightclubs for older people.

thanks for any help/suggestions .

Lunch at Angels with Bagpipes is reasonable. Dinner there is pretty expensive. Opposite St Giles so handy for touristy things like the Witchery.

Night life: George Street is more upmarket than the hen party scene in the Cowgate/Grassmarket/Lothian Road.

The Dome would suit. You won't find youngsters with L-plates there. Find its website and look at the pictures.

If you want a pub opposed to a bar, then have a look into the Cafe Royal and Guildford Arms just off East end of princes st. Very traditional places with a good mix of people.

Have you looked at the Grain Store for dinner?

http://www.grainstore-restaurant.co.uk should fit the price range and has lovely ambience. Just off royal mile on victoria st.

The Jam house is popular for the more mature set for music/ dancing- althuogh it does food, it is only OK , and there are many much better places to eat. http://www.thejamhouse.com/edinburgh/

Hi. The George St and Queen St area should fulfill all your dining and jiving needs. For some places to eat, similar to Wedgwood, look at The Honours, Wildfire or Harvey Nicks 4th floor. There are some great eateries on Rosé St too - bit more relaxed but stunning seafood at Mussel Inn, or Mexican at TexMex 2.

Drinks and dancing - the Jam House, The Dome, Le Monde - all should welcome you.

Could also try Cafe Andaluz in George Street if you like tapas, always found it to be very good.

Then round to the Jam House.

Aye - The Jam House is very popular with the older crowd for a boogie, but you'd have a nice time in Tigerlily too (The club downstairs is for 18-30's pretty much). The Dome bar definitely worth a visit for drinks - crowd 30-60 yrs old.

A nice restaurant / bar that you might like is the Voodoo Rooms. Mixed aged crowd, black and gold lush interior / swish looking bar and dining room. Nice place to start... Google it!

Hope this helps!
