We are staying in Cannonmills apartments in Edinburgh and want to know how to get to the centre from there and how long does it take. Also are there bars and pubs in the area ?

Walk or bus. About 20 minutes?

we are staying at No.10 Canon St. and unless there is a bus nearby might rather go into the centre to stay.

Lothian buses serve the whole city very well with public transport. From that address you can take a variety of buses around the city. Numbers 23/27/8/36 all serve this area. http://lothianbuses.com/ You are close to the Botanic gardens but can walk (uphill) to the city centre in about 15- 20 minutes.

If you're googling for information, that's Canon as in monks, rather than cannon as in artillery.

There are lots of cafes within sight of the canonmills clock, and a few hundred meters north you have the entrance to the Botanic Gardens, with a small cafe, a large one, a restaurant and a visitor centre. Very restful place to wander about or have a seat in the sun (!)

Earthy's doesn't get a mention on google, but is now a favourite with green people. Nor does Moo get listed. Shame on google.

Moo is no more - a new couple have taken it over and it's now the Blue Bear Cafe, Marshmallow Lady is another cafe and shop in Canonmills and also Beer Hive shop is great for beer and wine, especially their selection of Scottish beer. :) If you are self-catering Crombies (great sausages, haggis and steak pies) and Real Foods are also on Broughton street on the way into town or way back to the apartments.

Oh yes forgot - Cafe Agoo and Russian Passion are good local cafes too.

As for bars, plenty on Broughton Street - try the Barony Bar or the Cask and Barrel or nearer the apartments are: Smithies and the Orchard and less than 5 minutes walk away is the best option of the 3, the Cumberland which also has a beer garden.

Cumberland: https:/…

Buses into town are #8 (stop outside apartments) or #23 and #27 (stop across the road opposite Canonmills clock near Circle Cafe. £1.50 each way, exact money only no change given. But it's only a 10 to 15 minute walk into town up Broughton Street.
