Airlink to Grassmarket with luggage...

I am looking into the Airlink bus, but looks like it will be quite a walk to get from Waverly Bridge to our apartment in Grassmarket. How much would a taxi cost from Waverly? Would we just be better off taking a taxi from the airport? Would bus route 35 be a better option for us? Thank you.

A taxi from the airport would probably cost around £20 (depending on time of day, traffic etc.) A taxi from Waverley station will be more like £5-7.

What you won't see from a map is that the most direct walking woute from Waverley to the Grassmarket involves going up a steep hill and then back down the hill. It's not far as the crow flies, but I wouldn't want to do it with much luggage.

The 35 bus is definitely an option and will drop you off with a much more reasonable walk to the Grassmarket (though still potentially involving a hill depending on where you get off the bus) but it is incredibly slow -- nearly an hour long journey in average traffic but can be much longer. So it really depends how much you value your time.

If they get off at Forrest Road then its a walk DOWN Candlemaker Row into Grassmarket.

Better off walking down Victoria Street actually. It's not that far from Waverley, but the hills might make it a bit inconvenient.

Thank you. it sounds like a taxi from the airport is the best option, since the Airlink is 3.50 pp and a taxi 5-7, that's approx 14.00 right there.

If you're landing between 5 and 6:30pm perhaps go with the bus anyway as you'll hit traffic between those times and the meter fee will increase substantially.

Have a wonderful time!

35 turns off George IV Bridge by the National Museum of Scotland - so OP would have to walk the full length of GIVB before turning downhill.

Sort of a 6 of One, half a dozen, but I see your point.

I thought the OP was getting off the Airlink bus at Waverley.

The 35 bus will take you closer to grassmarket, get off at lauriston place (fire station museum) walk down hill to grassmarket 2mins. Taxi from waverly to grassmarket 5-6 pounds, can walk it in 5 mins but its uphill to castle then down southside of castle to grassmarket, personally I wouldnt take a taxi its 5mins but with luggage bedause of steep hill to castle taxi might be better. Personally I wouldnt take airport bus id get 35.... hope that helps. Nice independant shops in grassmarket, come visit our shop macdonald arts, candlemaker row, (artists prints and gifts) ead for national museum from grassmarket takes you up hill (candlemaker row) past greyfriars bobby statue and you also at sctlands national museum. In other words, the 35 goes pretty near both the east and west ends of the Grassmarket, with a downhill walk whichever end you choose. £1.50 for a single ticket, £3.50 if you want a day ticket for all Lothian Buses.

The downside is it will take about an hour from the airport, as opposed to the 100 Airlink bus at just over 30 minutes to Waverley Bridge.

The 35 has rack space for luggage because a lot of Edinburgh people use it to the airport.

A taxi from the airport seems unnecessary given how handy the 100/35 are.
