Hotel Close to Airport

We will be staying in Edinburgh for two nights before flying out from the airport to return to the United States. We are looking for a hotel that is moderately priced and close to the airport, but would allow us to get into Edinburgh for some sightseeing as well. "Moderately priced" for us would be a Comfort Inn or Quality Inn.

We have a rental car that will need to be returned to the airport, but we've been told NOT to attempt to drive in Edinburgh traffic. : )

So, we hope there is a way to go from the hotel and get into the city as well.

Any advice much appreciated.

Drop the car at the airport then take the airport bus into Edinburgh and stay centrally. No need to stay out in the sticks

Why stay out at the Airport, plenty of hotels in Edinburgh then you can go out during the day, go back and freshen up and go out in the evenings. It would be really boring being all the way out at the Airport.

We stay in the Haymarket when traveling from Edinburgh Airport.

The airport bus is close to Haymarket train station.

There is a Quality Inn near the airport, but it's a bit isolated, a long walk from the terminal and bus stops. There's also a Travelodge budget hotel on the Glasgow Road, a mile or two from the airport but at least it's on a bus route. There's also a Hilton at the entry to the airport site, and the Norton House not too far away, but both of those are probably above your budget.

I agree with the others, it's far easier just to get a bus or taxi into town and stay either at a B&B in, say, Corstorphine or at a budget hotel in the west part of the centre. Do be a little careful about Haymarket - the stretch of road between Haymarket itself and Shandwick Place is still a mess with tram works, although we all have high hopes that it will be returned to normal within the next few weeks. Nevertheless, there are quite a few B&Bs and small hotels in the streets to the north and west that are only minimally affected.

The airlink bus (#100) takes 30 minutes from the airport to the centre of town, and just over half that to get to areas like Murrayfield where there are some hotels and B&Bs.

Comments about road works and traffic management at Haymarket are true, however the whole area is still open for business, noise wouldn't impinge on overnight stays, and buses and taxis etc seem to work just fine despite that.

Edinburgh transport is good. You should have no trouble in getting around town from a place like Murrayfield or a similar suburb.
