We want to get to know the city.We will be there in Early October. Interests are history, food, some art but not all museums.

That's a bit vague.

TBH I don't get it when people come on here asking question like this, expecting us to plan their entire itinerary for them, when we have no idea what the person's priorities are. When I go somewhere new I generally go onto the relevant TA page (and sometimes guide books) and make a list of all the attractions that seem like they might interest me, which I then narrow down by looking at the reviews (going by proportion of good and bad rather than by how high or low it is on TA) If I need more information, then I might cone on here and ask questions.

If money no object, Number One, Castle Terrace, Martin Wisharts, the Kitchin

Top notch but slightly less cheffy, Dubh Prais, Kismot, Angels with Bagpipes, Wedgwood

Excellent quality, mix of bistros and pub food, Water of Leith Cafe Bistro, First Coast, Cafe Cassis, Bijou, the King's Wark, Malvarosa, Roseleaf

I often eat at Water of Leith Cafe Bistro, First Coast - they're probably my favourites being excellent food and excellent value

i second wedgewood it is a stunning restaurant and tom kitchin has recently opened up a new bistro at the stockbridge area. heard some great reviews!
