Best way to go to Dublin from edinburg or Glasgow

My husband and I will be in Scotland and Dublin on Thursday 28 February to 9th march ...we were planning to split our time edinburg, Glasgow, Dublin....can anyone say if there is a train from either edinburg or Glasgow to Dublin and is it worth taking it or should we go by flight....was interested in the train because we love the views as we go by...and if there is how long does it take and is it comfortable ? Thank you.

Any tips on tours from edinburg will be welcome I love the countryside but because of time constraint can't make it to aberdeen etc.

Dublin is on a separate island to Scotland. No train. No bridge. No tunnel.

You can fly or you can take a ferry.

Some ferries connect with train services. (EG - STranraer to Larne/Belfast). See "sail/rail" in this wonderful site -

You can do many tours from Edinburgh. It is surrounded by lovely countryside and coastline. Do you have any interest in John Muir (The Sierra Club)? His birthplace is a few miles from Edinburgh.

Have a look at some informative sites like visitscotland.com or undiscoveredscotland.co.uk to see what takes your fancy.

There are direct coaches from Edinburgh and Glasgow to Belfast, they go over on the ferry. Some also have connecting coaches to Dublin (or you could get a train).

The service is marketed under the 'Eurolines' banner and is jointly operated by Scottish Citylink and Ulsterbus.

This is the current timetable: https://www.eurolines.co.uk/timetables/eurol…

Travelling from Scotland to Dublin by any other way than flying will take a whole day of your holiday. Flights are frequent and very cheap if booked in advance- Ryanair and Aer Lingus operate from both Edinburgh and Glasgow (or Glasgow Prestwick for Ryanair) and flight times take one hour.

The roads are not particularly scenic at either end apart from a short stretch of coastline near Girvan on the Scottish side.

Are you travelling next week- or next year? If it is next week then be aware that on 8th March there are major rugby international fixtures in both Dublin and Edinburgh which will affect the availability and cost of hotel rooms in both cities. If next year, then do book up in advance as the same events will apply next year although the home/away venues will change. Check this website for details. rbs6nations.com/en/…fixtures_and_results.php

Do make sure you are very clear on the baggage policies on both airlines as the carry on rules are very strict (the Aer Lingus is a "regional" flight with smaller allowance). Ryanair are brutally strict about size and weight of baggage and online check in and will take every opportunity to penalise you if you make a mistake on your booking so take your time and be sure to opt out of insurance/ extras to keep your costs down.
