Use the above site to plan your journey.

Long way to go for one night.

You will see very little of Skye, any reason for travelling so far?

"It's a long way to Skye."

Indeed, 8 hours on a bus is not my idea of fun, just to do it all again the next day.

Forget Skye it's too far to travel, plus at this time of year you could get a mist and would see nothing when you get there. Think of 16 hours of a bus...nightmare... Also, i think I must be the only person on these Forums that does not like Skye, just my opinion, but much nicer places in Scotland.

Most people go to Skye for outdoor pursuits such as walking, hiking, climbing and fishing, if you are into these things a brief visit will not be enough.

Hi. It's a long way. Using the Traveline Scotland app you'll see that there is no direct bus route, to need to go via Glasgow.

If you are willing to leave Edinburgh at 05.15, you can get to Portree on Saturday at 13.15.

On Sunday, you can leave Portree at 15.15 and get back to Edinburgh at 23.45.

That gives you essentially 24 hrs on Skye, which isn't bad actually, given we are dealing with rural bus routes, in winter, on a weekend!

It will be pretty dark by 4/5pm, so your daylight in Skye will be very limited.

What is it about Skye that appeals? It may be worth it for you (who are we to judge), but equally we may be able to suggest a more suitable alternative, given your time constraints!

Abs :)

As well as the drive up through Glencoe, Skye is my favourite part of scotland

Paul, you are lucky that you have been to every part of Scotland. I have only lived here for 40 years and there are still some places I have not visited yet.
