Edinburgh or Glasglow in late August 2014

Hi all,

We plan to spend a few days in Edinburgh as part of our 2-week UK trip in late August (we are planning to fly into Edinburgh and fly out of London). I started reading post about Festival in August and wondering if

(1) we should postpone our trip to beginning of Sept so that we won't have to deal w/ crowd and possibly expensive hotel/B&B OR

(2) we could consider staying in Glasglow and take day trip to Edinburgh

Thanks.

It's FestivalS - there's several of them

Both your options are valid - it depends what you want to do in Edinburgh

It's Glasgow BTW

Duchoa it is a personal choice. For me September would be better as the days are still warm and light and it is a beautiful time of year. Edinburgh is full of trees and parks so lovely then and quieter to walk around and enjoy..

Also August is the main UK holiday for school children and their parents too as well as festival time so it will be busy everywhere. For some that means that there is a buzz and love the crowds.

There's pros and cons to both as the others have said. Edinburgh in August is a fairly unique experience but if the festivals don't appeal then sept would be quieter and accommodation undoubtedly cheaper.

" August is the main UK holiday for school children"

The school holidays in Scotland are July and early August. By the time the OP is proposing to travel, the local children will be back at school (and the suburban streets clogged with school run traffic at the relevant times). We don't see many English or Welsh children holidaying in Edinburgh, although there are usually a few senior school groups around taking part in festival productions.
