We are ending our 16 day tour of Ireland and Scotland at Edinburgh, where we spend 2 full days. We arrive by 11am on Friday, May 23rd, and leave in afternoon of Sunday, May 25th to take our flight back home. So we are there for two full days.
I believe the Edinburgh marathon is scheduled for that weekend (Saturday ?). Also, it is the Bank holiday weekend. So the place is likely to be packed. Fortunately, our B&B booking has been done.
We wish to know if any of the attractions/shopping etc would be closed during the weekend. Specifically, we are looking to do the Edinburgh Castle, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Scottish House of Parliament, Royal Yatch Brittania, Botanical Gardens. Plan on doing shopping in Old Town area, mainly for arts & crafts and souvenirs. Are any of these likely to be closed on Saturday or Sunday (especially with the marathon on) ? Anything we should be mindful of, given the weekend rush of tourists which are likely to descend upon Edinburgh that weekend ? Wonder if it will be a bad time to be in Edinburgh, or a good time (cannot change the dates anyway !).
