We're going up to Edinburgh in August for festival, and for the first time are driving rather than getting a train due to moving further down south! We live in Swindon but are driving up and staying at my mum's near Skipton in Yorkshire one night, then driving the rest of the way to Edinburgh the next day. From Google maps it looks like we will be going up the M6 and A74 (unless anyone thinks we should avoid that for some reason!).
We'll want to stop halfway for a rest and lunch, and it would be nice if there was somewhere we could mooch around for an hour to give the fella a break from driving! We'll probably bring a packed lunch but may want to buy a coffee etc. Was thinking of stopping at Gretna- is this a good stop off point? or can anyone reccomend a better one? Looking for somewhere with coffee/loos, maybe food, bonus for it being pretty or interesting! Anywhere but a service station haha.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions :)
