I'm treating my brother to a father's day weekend break in Edinburgh. I haven't been there as well. I'm flying to London from California for work next week and staying the weekend. He's a UK citizen, driving down from Nottinghamshire. We'll meet at Paddington Station to go to Waverley. We are both flying back on Sunday morning. Our break occurs Friday and Saturday.
Friday - 12 noon to midnight - pretty much devoted to Edinburgh (castle, museum, cathedral, parliament, food, even a ghost tour if our feet aren't killing us yet).
Saturday - options below
a. Take an early morning train to visit Stirling Castle, then return to Edinburgh for lunch then take bus 15 to Rosslyn Chapel and return and have dinner in Edinburgh (easiest with time to rest)
b. Take an early morning train to visit Stirling, then another train to Glasgow by noon. Lunch in Glasgow, half-day city tour, then train back to Edinburgh in time for 8 PM dinner. (most hectic)
c. Join one of those day trips to the Highlands that includes Stirling Castle. I saw some running on Saturdays. Back to Edinburgh for dinner. (simplest to plan but packaged tour)
What would you recommend?
PS: Unfortunately, our parents cast a curse on us and we do not drink alcohol. I can tolerate a pint but me bro gets itchy after a sip. No pub crawls for us, food tasting though, is fine. Looking for some Scottish fare to sample. :-)
