Edinburgh by evening

Visiting Edinburgh for a week in a couple of weeks for work and will be busy during the day. Free in the evenings so was wondering what I can get up to? Are any tourist attraction/must-sees open later in the day?

Have been on the City of the Dead Tour on a previous visit. Thanks in advance! :-)

Most tourist venues are open working hours. However there's plenty to do of an evening, and one starting point might be list.co.uk/events/… (I've guessed the week you're here, but you can easily change the dates)

Apart from all the usual music / comedy shows you might expect, the Edinburgh Film Festival will be on; there's something that might be more quirky: Zoo Nights.

Or you might search by venue

atgtickets.com/venues/edinburgh-playhouse/

... to name just a few.

Or there's a stroll up Arthur's Seat ...

No mention as yet of pubs or cafes or restaurants - plenty of those to choose from as well.

Thanks guys - some great ideas! Getting very excited now! :-)

Re Arthur's Seat - does this get closed off at night or is it easy to access? I won't have a car so will be walking from the bottom!

Many ways up and down Arthur's Seat. In late June it gets dark at almost Eleven. No gates, no restrictions. The usual way up starts at Holyrood. There will probably be others on the path in front of you. Allow 1 hr if pretty fit, but more likely 1 1/2 hrs.

One possibility: start from Holyrood; reach the top; admire the views; strike off Westwards and find the path that descends zigzag fashion. You can exit the park by the road near Pollock Halls / Commonwealth Pool, and you can then go and find Cassis where you'll get a good meal. Then a short bus ride back to the centre of town.

The easy way up Arthur Seat is to start at the Commonwealth pool and take the higher of the two roads round to your right after the road swings left you come to Dunsapie Loch and then to the left you will see the 'Easy' way to the top. As Derek has suggested Cafe Cassis on Salisbury Road directly in front of Commonwealth pool offers superb food at very reasonable prices

Thank you all - much appreciated!

Really home for some decent weather when I go, so that I can enjoy the view up there! Will try the Cassis too - seen that mentioned a few times on here! :-)

Thanks again.
