You will definitely want to tour a castle during your visit. You can either tour Edinburgh Castle or take the train to Stirling and tour the castle there. The kids will love the Museum of Scotland. It has many hands-on activities for kids, and it's free.

Things to do:

Edinburgh Castle

Royal Mile

Scottish Parliament

Holyrood House

Victoria Street and Grassmarket

Cockburn Street

George Street

Edinburgh zoo perhaps for the kids- take 26 bus from Princes Street

Central Edinburgh very walkable as it is small. Good bus service if you want to travel further out. Day trips on the train possible too but 3 days isnt very long so prob best to stay in Edinburgh.

rajivt2k2,

there is the National museum of Edinburgh that was really cool. It had some interactive stuff and a kids room too.
