Hovercraft Service Glasgow/Braehead/Greenock/Dunoon

Well its not up and running just yet, but fingers firmly crossed that the three day trial this week is a success!

It would be a lovely sight on the Clyde - first a seaplane and now maybe a hovercraft with twice daily service.

Anyone else old enough to remember the hovercraft service from Largs to Cumbrae?

Great fun, but ...what a racket!

I thought those Largs-Millport hovercraft memories were a lot of hot air until I stumbled across this link.

Re Largs: Yes; and "proper" turbine steamers and paddle steamers (not just the Waverley); and large wooden excursion boats from the beach; and little motor boats for the wimps; and lots of rowing boats for the strong. Watching the paddle steamers approaching the pier surrounded by idiots in these tiny boats. Long long queues of folk at the bus stop by the pier waiting for a continuous stream of red Western SMT double deckers to take them back to Johnstone, Paisley and Glasgow. Macari's ice cream (didn't like Nardini's and Castleton's).

Anyone go further back? I can't quite remember the good ship "The Comet" !!!!

Thanks for the link, Tony. I knew I didn't imagine it, even though I must have been about 2 months old at the time.... :-)
