I live in Newcastle and I'm taking the train up to Glasgow (first visit) for a few days at the start of December to see a gig in Oran Mor (top of Byres Rd).
I'm travelling solo to Glasgow. I'm not sure if I should stay in a central hotel, close to the train station, or if I should try to find one close to Byres Rd. If I choose a central hotel, will I be ok travelling from Oran Mor after the gig back to my hotel? I guess I'm concerned about my safety, simply because I don't know the city, and because I know every city has its rough spots (Newcastle included).
I plan to do a HOHO tour for a day around Glasgow. I'm not really into art/museums, scenery is more my thing. I was thinking about doing a couple of day tours from Glasgow with the tour company Rabbie's -perhaps heading off to the highlands one day and to Oban another day. Are these trips worthwhile in December? I'm only asking because the days are obviously shorter in December and the weather tends to be a little more miserable. Should I wait to do these day trips in Spring/Summer or are they worth doing in December?
Thanks in advance :o)
