Area around Alexander Thompson hotel. Is it still boarded up

I was thinking of booking the Alexander Thompson hotel at 320 Argyle st, for a Friday night in a couple of weeks, as it gets good reviews and is a good price.

However, when I look at google earth the whole area looks run down and boarded up.

I realise that some of these google pictures are old. Could somebody please tell me if the area is still the same. I thought Argyle Street was meant to be a vibrant shopping area.

I am a single mature lady on my own. If this area is not suitable could somebody point me in the right direction as I would like to be central near cafes, shops and something happening. Just a good "vibe" without being dead or rowdy.

Thanks in advance

Denise
