Indie days trips from Glasgow

Hello,

I will be in Glasgow part of next week and have a full day free.

Been to Edinburgh a few times so was thinking of Stirling. Apart from this anything else which takes about a hour on the train?

Thank you

The Ayrshire coast or perhaps up to Perth

Is an hour your limit?

Partly since its a working day so don't want to stray to far and have to head back. I am not driving so everything needs to be local. Also prefer history and old building.... hence why I mentioned Stirling.

Thank you Stevie

Stirling is a nice day out with the castle and Wallace monument to keep you occupied for a while

Are there any other castle towns/cities within a hour from Glasgow.

Stirling, could you easily spend 10-5 there?

Cheers

Stevie D - You didn't mean combining the Stirling visit with Dumbarton Castle, did you? The two are miles apart, and there is no direct train link between them.

Graeme, if you do opt for Stirling, the Wallace Monument is quite a hike - more than two miles from the Castle/ town centre, and a big uphill bit at the end.

One idea might be to visit Helensburgh, and see the Hill House, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh www.nts.org.uk/Property/The-Hill-House.

The seaside town is otherwise quite attractive, and could amuse you for a while. You could even stop off at Dumbarton, en route from/to Helensburgh, to visit its Castle. It's around a 15 minute walk from the station.
