Day trip from Glasgow

My husband and I are planning a 2 night stay in Glasgow the first weekend in Sept. Can anyone suggest a good day trip for one of the days (perhaps Loch Lomond ?) . Is a tour operator best to use for this type of trip or do you think we can manage getting to and from with public transportation? Also, what type of weather should we expect that time of year ? Thank you, I appreciate any tips folks can provide.

Loch Lomond can be easily done by train to Balloch at around £8 off peak return, trains every half hour and take 45 mins.

From there you can take a cruise on the loch for as little as £8 each.

There is a tour company called Rabbies who do a day trip which also includes Glengoyne Distillery and Stirling Castle at £35 using 16 seat Mercedes-Benz mini buses.

Weather in Scotland is totally unpredictable but generally in Sept can be pleasant just pack accordingly.

Two great and easy options from madscotsman. A few more ideas can be found on the 'Day Trips from Glasgow' page: tripadvisor.co.uk/Guide-g186534-l425-Glasgow…

Bring suitable clothing for the worst kind of weather and hope for the best kind. In a maritime climate such as ours its anyone's guess what September will be like. Layers are the way to go:)

An off-peak return to Balloch from Glasgow is £5.80, and peak return (departing before 9am M-F) is £7.80.

Day trips can also be done from Glasgow by train/ferry to the Isle of Bute or Arran.
