Route recommendations Please

Hi there, interested in some advice please. we're a family of four (kids ages 6 and 8) flying in to Inverness on 12th Aug for ten days. We will have a car are looking for advice on a suitable route around scenic parts of the Highlands to bring us back to Inverness. Need ideas of good places to visit and stay please. Must involve seals ( if poss) as they are our son's current obsession! thanks lot!

Go to the Black Isle and spend a day in Cromarty and there are often dolphin sightings near there, easy day out and back to Inverness. Also do Culloden battle field and Clava cairns, plus there is a lovely village named Nairobi nearby

You can even make a day trip to the Aviemore area it is in a national park (craignhorns ?spelling) and there are a ton of activities in the park and small towns

Or you could take the day and drive down Loch Ness to the west coast if nice day great drive

If staying in Inverness highly recommend the Trafford Bank B&B

@ldcbl.....are you a victim of autocorrect? I have never heard of Nairobi.

I think the area you are referring to is The Cairngorms National Park

https://visitcairngorms.com

Plenty for families with children to see and do. Have a look at the website and if it interests you, come back and ask some questions. I wouldn't do just a day trip though. There is LOADS to keep you occupied for days.

Funicular Railway, Loch Morlich, Loch an Eilein, Rothiemurchus Visitor Centre and estate, Cairngorm Reindeer Centre, Strathspey Steam Railway, the list is endless. It's only about 30 minutes from Inverness to reach the main town, Aviemore.

With 10 days you can certainly cover a lot of ground. What about 5 days in and around the Aviemore area and then 5 days over towards the west. Probably best to head west first to bring yourselves back towards Inverness then for your flight home ?

Maybe the west coast for your seals? We did a walk led by a ranger near Drumbeg (found out about it from the tourist info in Lochinver). If the kids like beaches that area between Lochinver and Kylesku is heaven, it's so quiet and unspoilt. We had days in August when there was only us and one other family on the beach.

Hi,

Not seals, but dolphins only about 15 miles from Inverness at Rosemarkie.

Phew idcl! Glad you corrected your autocorrect!

No Tim, has serious connotations around these parts😂

Woody at #2

That reminds me of a conversation I overheard in the back of the Cab where an American was asking how to get to Tena?

The person said Tena? Where is that?

The American wrote it down! It was Iona!!!!😂😂

Gosh @edinem....there's me agreeing with you again!! Lochinver is a great base for exploring the coast. We had a fabulous holiday one August up there exploring the area. The beaches at Clachtoll and Achmelvich are fabulous.

@ldcbl....yes NAIRN is a lovely town. Nearby Spey Bay or Findhorn might be a place to see seals.
