My other half and I are flying in to Inverness on 7th September to have a week’s holiday before we attend a wedding in St Andrews on 14th. We would like suggestions of places to go, things to see, and accommodation recommendations.
We are planning to hire a car, either directly from the airport or a few days later if we decide to spend some time in Inverness itself. We have accommodation booked for the Friday and Saturday nights (13th & 14th) in St Andrews, so ideally our accommodation on the Thursday night would be within a few hours drive of there, but other than that we have no route in mind. Recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
Ideally we would stay a few nights in each place so that we don’t have to pack up/check out/check in daily, so that would be Inverness Sat/Sun night (or somewhere nearby as we arrive at Inverness airport late afternoon), then somewhere else Mon/Tue and Wed/Thu, but none of this is set in stone. Happy to travel a few hours a day from wherever we are staying to see/do things. We have previously visited Glasgow and Edinburgh so would like to stay out of the big cities.
Would ideally like to spend under £80 per night on accommodation.
Things we like;
Nature reserves/wildlife, the coast, Art & culture, Good food/distilleries.
Not so keen on;
shopping, hiking - a few hours walking is fine but not so keen on long hikes (bad knees) or long boat trips (sea sickness).
I hope this is not too vague, if it is easier for me to put together an itinerary for comment then I will do that, but ideally wanted some guidance prior to planning.
Thanks in advance for your help.
