Any decent hotels?

Are there really no decent hotels in Aviemore?

According to reviews on here they all look pretty poor :(

Any opinions welcome.

Depends what you are after.

The Hilton Coylumbridge just out of town has comfy rooms, a great breakfast and lost of facilities

Sorry - I did see the Hilton (which I agree is good) but it's a bit far out of town ;(

I'm coming up on the train so won't have any transport.

I agree with the above. Great boozer too and very handy (opposite) the train station.

(I have walked to the Coylumbridge more than once but agree it is a wee bit far out))

Hi simon

Colymbridge a couple of quid taxi fare from outside the station, or a pleasent walk!

Cairngorm hotel as mentioned is convinient and great food, but id be supprised if one of the Mcdonald chain hotels in the centre wasnt up to your expectations- check out the website!

Plenty of decent B&B available too.

Let us know how you got on

Cheers!

Many of the hotels in the centre of Aviemore, eg McDonald's are used by coach companies as a one night stop-over. Remember that a lot of people write a review when their experience is bad and people who have had a good experience do not bother. What about Mackenzies Inn?

I have not stayed in it but have eaten there so I would recommend The Cairngorm, within staggering distance of the station.

Although the Hilton at Coylumbridge is a good 20 minute walk out of town its in a lovely setting. I haven't eaten there for a while though but it does have lots of facilities. Perhaps a B & B would be more to your liking?

What is "decent" according to Simon BTW?

Hi Woody,

'Decent' is 4*+ with generally positive TA reviews - none have that (discounted Hilton which is too far out).

I don't do B&B's ;)

It does look like it's going to have to be the Hilton and a lot of taxis :(

Maybe if that is your criteria for decent hotels you should look at a different location.

No point in going there if you are ending up somewhere you really don't want to stay.

(The reason for me walking from Aviemore to Coylumbridge was the lack of availability of taxis in the evening)
