Hiking in Aviemore

I will be staying in Collumbridge near Aviemore next week. Are there any good hiking trails nearby. I have plenty of experience hiking both in the Swiss Alps and at home. There will be four of us, two of whom have very little experience in the mountains.

Regards

John.

You will be spoilt for choice in the Aviemore area. It depends on how far you want to walk. Take a look at this site for ideas

just a word of caution, the weather at this time of year can change very quickly ,so make sure you are carring warm and waterproof clothing and wearing good quality footwear.

I have been walking in the area many times at this time of year.it can be very warm down in the towns and villages ,but when you are up over 3000 ft onthe mountains it can get very cold indeed.

There is a lovely walk which sets off from Glenmore lodge. This is

about 3 and a half miles along the road towards the Cairngorms from Coylumbridge. It starts off fairly gently so might be quite good for your novice friends.

Hi

http://walking.visitscotland.com/ is a good site to find all sorts of walks.

Another website worth looking at is www.munromagic.com particularly if you do want to go up one of the Cairngorms or higher hills - it lets you enter the maximum time for a walk and suggests options.
