Inverness to Orkney bus tour?

Does anyone know about a bus tour from Inverness to Orkney? Tour Operator? Bus Line? Time involved? Can it be done in one day with return to Inverness? Thanks,Ron.

You are determined to have a busy time are you not?

www.jogferry.co.uk do a day trip starting 1st of June leaving Inverness at 7.30am and returning at 9pm.

You are coming earlier than that from memory are you not?

Yes we are going to be busy. This sidetrip to Orkney was suggested by one of our spouses so we thought we should at least explore the possibility. But...yes we are going to there prior to June 1st. Our schedule right now is:

April 19-25 - Netherlands Waterways Cruise

April 26-May 2 - Aberfeldy - Castle Menzies

May 3-4 - Inverness

May 5-6 - Balluchulish

May 7-10 - Edinburgh

Hopefully NOT TOO MUCH!!!

Fofama, I really have appreciated all of your input.

Fofoma ... I looked at the website you suggested and it would have been a perfect fit for us but unfortunately we can't wait around until June 1st. Oh well...thanks for the suggestion.

Are there buses that can take us to Thurso/Scrabster where we can catch a ferry to Orkney or would it be just as easy to drive there? Ron

Just call me Fo it's easier....

Citylink do operate a bus but it only connects with the 19.00hr ferry getting you to Orkney at 20.30hrs so not possible for a day trip I'm afraid.

Driving would take you 2.5hours and it is 112 miles (www.theaa.com) and the ferry leaves Scrabster at either 08.45hrs and 13.15hrs and takes 90 minutes Mon-Fri

Sat/Sun 12.00hrs only

Last ferry back is 16.45hrs so I don't think it is do-able in a day unless you get up very early and are on the first ferry of the day.

Oban is only 2 hours away from Aberfeldy - how about a trip to Mull instead?

Hi - It can be done.

You could try this:

CityLink coach Inverness to Scrabster (by Thurso).

Northlink ferry to Stromness

Tour of Orkney finishing up in St Margaret's Hope

Pentland Ferry back to Scottish Mainland

CityLink coach return Edinburgh.

I'd look up the times but you can too, just as easily.

You can return via the same route to Scrabster but the ferry leaves earlier.

It is a lovely journey north - but note there is also a train between Inverness and Thurso.

Please note, it is way better to spend one night at least in Orkney, as there is so much to see and do, it is quite amazing. I live in Stromness :)

You can also drive, if you want. Depend upon how early you like to wake :)

If you have trouble, contact me for help.

Best wishes

Malcolm
