thinking of maybe..going from inverness via above in one day..spending the night in skye then returning to fort william for two nights....would this be cramming too much in on day one....not sure of the distance or travel times...

Any particular reason for staying in Ft William?

Not the prettiest of places sadly.

Providing you will have a car, I agree that it would be best to spend more time on Skye.

Hello and thanks for coming to Scotland.

You would have to watch the ferry times if going Inverness, Fort William, Mallaig, Skye as that is a long day taking into account all that there is to stop and see on the way. Prebooking a ticket might be a good idea in August as the ferry is busy. calmac.co.uk/timetables/…

You could go Inverness, Kyle, Skye which would be quicker on to Skye (and no ferry charge because its a bridge) then after one or two nights on Skye (its a big island) head South by ferry to Mallaig, Fort William.

Fort William is the main town in Lochaber district and there is lots to see in the district. The Highest mountain in the UK Ben Nevis, the Nevis Range mountain gondola, the deepest loch Loch Morar, beautiful beaches around Arisaig and Morar, beautiful Glen Nevis, Glen Coe, Glenfinnan including the railway viaduct from Harry Potter, wildlife everywhere including the remote Ardnamurchan peninsula, the Commando monument, seafood in Mallaig, the Caledonian canal, walks, biking...

Where do you have to go after Fort William?
