We are traveling to Scotland from the US in July. We have just 3 nights, and want to see all that we can. The first day and night we are going to explore Edinburgh. The next day we were thinking of renting a car and driving to the Glenfiddich Distillery, MacCallan distilleray and Ballindalloch Castle. According to google maps this is about a 3/12 hour drive. We were going to book a night somewhere in the Highlands for that night, and the next day do a quick check in at Loch Ness and check out Stirling Castle on the way back to Edinburgh. My one concern is the drive time...although I think just driving through the Highlands will be beautiful. For those of you who have done it, does the estimate on googlemaps seem correct? Is this too amibitious? Second, I was thinking of trying to find a room in Grantown-on-Spey. Is this a good idea or is there a better location to get a room? Any feedback would be great!
