Red Squirrels on the Black Isle

We are visiting the Black Isle in the summer and would love the chance to see Red Squirrels. Does anyone know of any good area's , forest comission sites or just general walks where we might stand a good chance of seeing them?

The above link may help you...

By opening the PDF file named "Black Isle " you can clearly see the stronghold area marked in green. It looks like the B9160 cuts right through it from Rosemarkie on the Moray Firth to Jemimaville on the Cromarty Firth and the area to the left of that road appears to be forested but I have no personal knowledge of squirrels in that area, its just a bit of research that has come up with that answer!

IF you are passing near Grantown on Spey Anagach Woods at the edge of the town and Abernethy Forest near the Loch Garten nature reserve are places where you can be pretty sure of seeing them. Perhaps someone more local to the Balck Isle will be able to give you more specific knowledge

Good luck

Nice one, Mark M, though the website seems pretty slow. Tracey, there's a difference between people with bobble hats and binoculars spotting wildlife, and you spotting the same during a short visit. I'd recommend seeking a centre where squirrels are know to visit or where there might be a ranger.
