Arran/Bute/Kintyre Ferries

Hi folks - newbie here.

I am planning a circular camping tour going Wemyss-Rothesay, Rhubodach-Colintraive, Portavadie-Tarbert, Claonaig-Lochranza, Brodick-Ardrossan.

Do any of you good people know if I will be able to just turn up and get on the ferries or will we have to book in advance? We will be going in June before the school holidays and want to keep our itinerary flexible.

You can just turn up on the Bute and Kintyre ferries. It might be worth a phone call to the Port office before you set off for the Arran leg. The CalMac web site has phone numbers for port offices.

Hi and welcome to Tripadvisor,

The calmac website also has details of an "Island Hopping" ticket that may cut costs.

Of the five ferry routes which you plan to use, only Brodick - Ardrossan is bookable in advance, and it's a good idea to do so, assuming you will have a car. The other ferries are just 'turn up and go' - you can't book them in advance even if you want to!
