How to pronounce "Pitlochry"

We're going to Pitlochry in the fall. How do you correctly say the word?

Pit-loch-ree with the emphasis on the loch. Some people have trouble saying loch - they say lock. The "ch" is a soft sound.

Hope this makes sense.

thegoodwitch - just found your post so hopefully you will see this and help me out! I am one of those who has trouble with "loch" and since we are going to Pitlochry at the end of June, it would be nice to say it properly!

You said "loch" is like "ch" - is that like the last part of "watch" or the "ch" in choo - choo?

Thanks

no, not like watch or choochoo.

It's a soft sound. This is as close as I can get for you.

Bach as in German composer (pronounced properly - not like back or bark!!!!!!!!)and then when you are confident with the end sound change to loch.

Altogether now..............loch

mitney's advice is good. It sounds as if you are clearing your throat. Don't worry - it takes years of practice and some people can't pronounce it all.

For the advanced students you can progress to -

"It's a braw, bright, moonlicht nicht, the nicht, ye ken."

The ch-sound is not a problem for me, as my language is packed full with g's and ch's that are pronounced just like the ch in loch :)

Try Scheveningen for a change ;)
