COLONSAY in September

I am hoipng to try a new island to visit in September and Colonsay looks to be what I am looking for. I am particularly interested in walking, nothing too strenuous, photography and wildlife/birdwatching. Is September a good time to visit the island although I know I have missed the corncrakes by then. The beaches look stunning and look like some great photo opportunities.

is the ferry that runs from Oban one of the larger ferries, as I am not that geat at travelling by sea, Uist and Harris are fine as the ferry is fairly large. IDoes the sailing tend to be a bit rough?

I know there is a small shop on the island, is there a petrol station?

I have undiscovere scotland website but there is not a lotof info on Colonsay. can anyone recommend any good websites to try

Thanks

I imagine there must be petrol on the island, but I was only there for the day, so didn't notice any. I would check beforehand, or fill up in Oban. I doubt you'll be able to use much petrol there.......

The sailing won't be rough, if the sea isn't rough. Who knows what the weather will be in a month's time? You can check the Calmac site to check which which boat it is, but I remember it was large. (It goes to Islay).

Ferry: usually MV Hebridean Isles. It's not their biggest but it's not a rowing boat.

Petrol: I don't think so, but I haven't used a car there. [There must be petrol somewhere - maybe a general store with a pump on the side?] Fill up in Oban. Colonsay isn't so big you're likely to run out.

Thanks for the replies. AS there are around 130 people live on island I would think that a petrol pump would be part of maybe the shop
