1 overnite...Portree or Dunvegan?

We are driving up to Skye from Glencoe, spending one night, then down to Inverness the next day. Thought we'd like to see Talisker Distillery and Dunvegan Castle. The itinerary is:

Leave Glencoe around 9.00, drive to Skye via Skye Bridge (3-4 hrs?), drive to Portree (via A87) by mid-afternoon (or maybe take short detour over to Talisker Distillery, then back on to Portree by about 17.00, where we'd spend the night. Next day, drive to Dunvegan to arrive by 10.00 to tour the castle, and then have lunch at Three Chimneys at 12.30. Then leave Dunvegan around 13.30, and drive down (via Struan & Drynoch) back to Sky Bridge and on to Inverness (4-5 hrs?) arriving around 19.00?

Is my timing way off base? Would it be better to stay in Dunvegan overnight?

How long is Glencoe-Dunvegan and Dunvegan-Inverness drive (hrs)?

How long is Glencoe-Portree and Portree-Dunvegan-Inverness drive (hrs)?

Hi

What you are suggesting sounds feasible. I'd go for Portree overnight - but thats just a personal view.

Depending on when you are going you could also consider taking the glenelg ferry across to Skye. Ok, it costs money and only runs from april - see www.skyeferry.co.uk - but it is much more atmospheric than the bridge and a more scenic journey to glenelg.

You can add mid-points and will get distances and times.

Glencoe-Dunvegan is circa 3 hours if you don't stop*.

Dunvegan-Inverness is c.3 hours if you don't stop*.

*Allow extra time because you WILL stop, the views are sensational.

If you want to visit Talisker go there before you go to Portree, i.e. drive Glencoe-Sligachan-Talisker (approx 3 hours), do the tour then on to Portree (another say 45-60 minutes, depending on which road you take).

Lunch at the Three Chimneys takes longer than 1 hour. Allow at least 1.5 hours.

Thank you, all, for your information. We decided to stay in Portree. Will do the Talisker Distillery (side trip) on the way up, and Dunvegan (circuitously) on the way back.
