Uig

Hi. We are going to Skye in September and we are staying in a cottage called Tigh-a-creagan in Uig. Is this a good area to be based? We are planning on a little walking and some good pub grub, not to mention a few whiskies in front of the fire in the evening. Any places of interest in this part of Skye.

We do have a car and plan to travel all round the island, so the skyes the limit!

The walk up to The Old Man of Storr is great but make sure you have proper footwear and not flip flops like someone I passed when I did it. It is on the other side of the Trotternish Peninsula from Uig but easily reached by car.

Be sure to take time and watch the ferry come into Uig - you think that it is going to pass the jetty as it comes steaming up Loch Snizort and then it does the equivalent of a marine hand break turn and slips in as serene as you like. Never get tired of watching these Calmac ferries and the coming and goings on them.

I only had lunch there in the pub just at the harbour but from memory it wasn't that remarkable but that was 2 years or so ago so it may have changed.

Thanks for your advice. We are there for the last week in september. Do the ferries run to the outer hebrides all year round, weather permitting? We would like to visit for a day if possible. We are completely new to the Highlands and are so looking forward to it and want to cram as much in as possible in a week.

if you have seen the film stardust with michelle pfeiffer they fimed some of the movie on skye at a place called the fairy glen.look up google to see pictures as its rather mysteries and incredible how the land and hills are shaped the way they are.as you head into uig theres the uig hotel on the right hand side, just before it theres a single track road on the same side,go up that and it about 2 minutes away.
