nice weekend away please

Please can anyone recommend a nice friendly hotel in ireland for a weekend away with friends (8 of us together) to celebrate my 50th birthday.

We would like somewhere that we can fly to from stansted and be able to get to by cab from the airport( not too far). Ideally we just want a cosy pub we can walk to with a good irish atmosphere in a small village/town, and perhaps a couple of nice walks in the area.

I have been to Wicklow before and fell in love with Ireland, any suggestions please or am I asking too much?

I have not looked at the other airports, but Ryanair operate a service from Stansted to Shannon, county Clare - a regular service with free flights for the period that I have just checked:

Two places spring to mind, Quin and Ennistymon.

Quin is very close, friendly locals, traditional music - and it's wonderful abbey - the perfect Irish picture postcard village, but you are limited with hotel choices. The only place that comes in any way close is:

Ennistymon is lovely, but about an hour by cab, 90 minutes by this bus service:

The old home of Dylan Thomas's wife is:

This would be convenient for the pubs etc.

Ballyvaughan is a little further by cab - too messy by bus.

Bunratty or Adare are both nicce, but not what I think that you have in mind.

Hopefully you'll get some other ideas for the other regional airports.

Hi Thanks for your help

I think if we were going for longer the extra hour on the journey wouldn't be a problem but as its just the two days we were hoping to find somewhere closer to an airport or easy to get to in a cab.

The places you suggest look stunning though. How far is the first place you recommend from the airport would you say please?

Quin?

It's 15 or 20 minutes max!

Stunning little place.

Bunratty is only 10 minutes with Bunratty Manor and Bunratty castle hotel - but it can't match the charm of the other places.

How about Kinsale - just a short spin from Cork airport with flights to/from Stansted?
