1st night dublin suggestions

4 adults will arrive dublin 11 sept 2011 8 am. Plan to stay in Dublin 1 night then pick up rental car and head to Clifden. We will be leaving Ireland from Shannon on 24 SEPT 2011

Would it be best to stay at a hotel close to airport vs. in Dublin in rgards to ease of picking up rental the next day?

Is there a guided tour that we should take in order to see a couple of the highlights in Dublin before heading out on Monday?

Is the hop on hop off available from airport hotels?

In terms of avoiding the need to haul luggage into the city centre, it may make sense to book into an airport hotel. This should allow you drop your luggage on arrival and travel unencumbered into the city centre. It should also make picking up a rental car fairly straightforward on the following morning.

Most airport hotels offer shuttles to/from the terminal but the HOHO guided bus tours only run from the city centre.

You can access the city centre from your airport hotel by taxi. The airport is also served by Airlink Bus and Aircoach coach which offer express/limited stop services to/from city centre locations, but do not serve airport hotels. However, given that you are in a group of 4, the economics of taxi travel v bus are about equal, so I would use a taxi to access the city centre. Taxi would be about €25-30 from the airport to the centre. Airlink bus is about €6 one-way or €10 return. Aircoach is slightly dearer than Airlink.
