Picked up a car from SixT inDublin. I always make sure that I have good travel insurance which covers car rental excess. The woman (middle aged, dark hair) on the Dublin SixT desk was quite aggressive telling us that we HAD to pay the large daily collision damage waiver insurance, and that the Irish police would not recognise my travel insurance. I've never had this problem before. We had made the booking on the net and there was nothing about this when we booked. She was most unpleasant about it. As I was travelling with my elderly mother and family, and it was freezing cold and we had been diverted from Kerry airport, I eventually gave up arguing with her and paid it. But in retrospect I wish I hadn't. It was a most unpleasant experience and I would NEVER use SIXT again.
