Yesterday I had my passport stolen when going through security. It was very strange - here is what happened. I put my document wallet with passport in a grey tray along with with my liquids in a plastic bag and my coat on top to go through the X-ray machine. I saw it enter the xray machine, I walked through after it through the person scanner. When i got the other side i waited for it to come through I saw the document wallet captured on the xray machine. I was right there the whole time watching, the tray took ages to exit and as soon as it came out I grabbed it. The make up and coat were there but the document wallet was not. I raised the alarm immediately. They checked the machine in case it had fallen out. They rewinded the xray images and agreed it was captured on the screen. The police came took some details and time went on I missed my flight. I booked another flight back to London (£270!) to travel on my drivers license. Meanwhile the police were checking CCTV to see what happened. I went to the police station to view the images but turns out THERE is NO CCTV COVERING HALF THE SECURITY AT DUBLIN T1 due to refurbishment!!! I couldn't believe it! I can't prove it but my suscipion is that it was an inside job. There I'd no way any more vigilance on my part would have prevented this happening! I was concentrating on the tray 100%. It took ages to exit the machine and so I believe this is when the theft happened. The thief must have known there were no cameras. What worries me most is identity theft as my wallet was clearly NOT a purse- it was for my passport and boarding pass. The thief wanted my British passport(I spoke as I approached in the line so they could tell I was English). The police rang me- the document wallet was apparently dumped in the gents toilet. But we collected it from the same part of security which was odd! Was it there all along? I will never know. I am now thinking of cancelling my passport and replacing it as it could have been copied before it was found. Am I being paranoid or am I right to be suspicious? I will be £350 out of pocket which I'm so angry about but don't think I can claim on insurance because I had my stuff returned. Would be interested to hear what others think.
