Driving route Cashel to Galway w/ overnight

Does anyone have suggestions for a leisurely drive from Cashel to Galway with an overnight (on Saturday 5/19) with trad music nearby? We'd like to see both the Burren and some coastal cliffs.

You can easily travel from Cashel to Galway via the Burren and the nearby Cliffs of Moher in a single day, and stay over in Galway. It's about 140 miles in total.

Have the night in Ennis if you want to break the journey, Start of the Fledh on the 18th. Go over via Killaloe/Ballina and some of Lough Derg. If the place is booked up then head over to the coast, you will find music just about anywhere heading north from Kilkee (or south to loop head for that matter).

I think the Fledl in Ennis starts on the 20th (at least that is what the website says) so too late for us. Otherwise that would have been perfect. And we've already got 2 nights in Galway & 3 in Dublin so we're looking for 2 days to explore the more traditional side of Ireland. Dingle was in the itinery but I'm feeling it adds too much drive time (and possibly too touristy??). Also several queries I've made to B & B places in Dingle have indicated no rooms available or have gone unanswered. So the current thought is -

May 15 - 17 Dublin

May 18 (Fri) - Cashel???

May 19 (Sat) - Clare/Burren area/coastal area???

May 20 -21 Galway

May 22 Shannon airport area.

We've got reservations for Dublin and Galway although they can be changed but we are commited to spending time in both locations. No strong feelings yet about May 18 & 19 so still open for suggestions.

I'm thinking d/t the popularity of Cashel we'll probably need to get a reservation if we decide on there. May 19 I'd like to just leave open so we have some flexibiltiy but would like to at least have an idea of interesting day stops and places for overnight with trad music nearby (besides Doolin). Since it's a Saturday night, can I assume most locales in the countryside would have a pub with trad music? Or is that an idiotic generalization of Ireland? I apologize in advance for my ignorance! And I'd appreciate suggestions of where to head for May 18 & 19.

Sorry yes the official start is Monday but there will be lots arriving early so you are pretty much guaranteed a good nights entertainment.

Its the Galway County Fledh over in Clifden that I'm at the 18th. (The mind isn't what it used to be)

The Slow Food festival is also on in Lisdoonvarna http://www.slowfoodclare.com/

No matter where you finish up there will be music on the Saturday night. Clare is renowned for good music.

If you stop off with Ann down Cartron House Farm, there's the Friday ceilidh over the road from here in Connors. Bit blue grass and no tourists just the locals having the craic, might not start till past your bed time though.

Saturday

leave Cashel and head over to the eastern side of Lough Derg, where you'll find pretty lakeside villages like Dromineer and Garrykennedy. Continue in a southerly direction on to Killaloe and visit St Flannan's Cathedral, maybe stop for refreshments at the Wooden Spoon

In the afternoon, you should have time for Bunratty Castle and Folk Park if it interests you:

shannonheritage.com/Attractions/BunrattyCast…

then head to Clondanagh Cottage in the heart of east Clare for a warm welcome and expert knowledge on the local music scene:

In the evening pop over to Shortts Bar in Feakle for some superb traditional music - played by locals for the sheer pleasure of playing together:

If you don't want to drive to/from Feakle, Dorothy, who runs Clondanagh Cottage will be able to organise a taxi for you. Nice pub food at Pepper's in Feakle, where you might also find some music:

Sunday

From Tulla head to Ennis to pick up the N85/N67 to the Cliffs of Moher, then continue through the Burren to Galway.

Can't remember if I've given you this information:

and this is a useful site for more in depth information:

You can plot your routes on this web-site - but remember to add further 20% to the quoted drive times to allow for driving on unfamiliar roads:

Thanks Tony & Sarnia! Both suggestions get us off the beaten path which is our goal for these 2 days and both lodging suggestions seem to be within our budget (30-40 euros pps).

I think we will pass on Bunratty Castle as good chance we will have already seen plenty of castles by then and for these 2 days we are going to avoid all main tourist attractions (except possibly COM as we have to see the cliffs somewhere).

Weather permitting, I'm now thinking we might want to incorporate Loop Head into our drive to Galway. Or does it just make more sense to bypass them and go for COM since we are coming from Cashel?

Loop head is a good way south, fine from Ennis or if you opt for Kilkee for your overnight. Gets my vote over Moher which are best seen from the sea on a mini cruise.

I was lucky enough to see Moher before the surroundings were messed with so don't rate them as highly as the hype would have folk believe.

My report/review of loop head
