I am curious about a few websites mentioning a AAA international Drivers License to rent a car in Ireland. Is that something I should do? My Drivers license was renewed less than a year ago whcih seems to be the sticking point.

Your US driving licence is all that is normally required to hire cars in Ireland. You are suggesting that there is a sticking point relating to a renewal of your licence within the last year. If your rental company requires evidence of more than a year's driving experience, can you provide a copy of the previous licence? If length of driving experience is the problem, I don't see how a recently issued AAA licence will resolve matters.
