Favorite time to travel to Ireland?

What is your favorite time of year to visit Ireland and why?

Is there a period to avoid?

Thank you.

The winters can be cold and the days for sightseeing much shorter. July and August can be busy and more expensive. May, June and September seem to be the preferred times.

My favourite months here are:

April, May, September, Early October, because the light is still good, the weather can be surprisingly good, the kids are in school and all sights are still open.

Other months that I like, - June, July, August, but as they are peak holiday season here, I put them after the others.

My least favourite months are:

November to February inclusive, because the weather is just awful (its either, cold, wet, foggy, damp, drizzly, grey - or a combination of all six), daylight hours during these months are very short. typically, gets bright about 08:30 and is dark again about 5pm YUCK.

I am going last 2 weeks of September this year, the previous 2 years I've travelled beginning of October, October 2010 I had a heatwave and it was sunny ever day, October 2011, it rained nearly every day but I still had a good time. I chose September this year as I thought it would be nice to be other there a wee bit earlier and I guess the days will be a tadge longer in September, than October, but just a tadge. I wouldn't go July or August (plus I can't get them off at work) as it would be too busy over there, and I prefer it to be quieter.

Avoid 1st November to St Pats and 1st July to 1st September . Disregard the first suggestion if you are coming for the Ennis Trad fest in November.

Sept should be less chilly than the weather you're experiencing, now, correct?

Ah Yes, now I know why June and July are NOT on my top 5 list of favourite times to visit this country,

Looking out my window at yet another dismal July day, and June - to quote Met Eireann - "Rainfall was well above average "

It surely was.

Don't visit on Thursdays either, as it would appear most of the storms hit the country last winter on Thursdays :o)))
