2 week itinerary help

I'm planning a 2 week trip for myself & spouse in 2013 - last week in May & First Week in June. I'd like to get some itmerary help. I need help mostly with logistics, such as when\where to rent a car, but any ideas or suggestions will be appreciated.

My list of places to visit is as follows:

Dublin

Galway

Aran Islands (one is OK- Inismore)

Conemara

Cliffs on Moer

Dingle Pennisula

Ring of Kerry

Beara Pennisula

Killarney National Park

Feel fee to suggest other convenient attractions:

Bunratty?

I'd like to limit my use of rental car to one week & use only during my time in the Southwest.

Here is my preliminary itenerary:

Day 1 - Fly Into Dublin-Train to car rental location in Southwest (?), car to kenmare

Day 2 - Kenmare - Killarney National Park

Day 3 - Kenmare - Ring of Kerry

Day 4 - Kenmare - Beara Pennisula

Day 5 - Kenmare to Dingle

Day 6 - Dingle Pennisula

Day 7 - Dingle to Galway via cliffs of Moer - Return Car at Galway or Other location

Day 8 - Galway City

Day 9 - Galway Day Tour - Connemara

Day 10 -Galway Day Tour - Aran Island of Inismore

Day 11- Galway to Dublin Airport by Bus- Stay at Airport Property in Dublin

Day 12- Dublin

Day 13 - Dublin - Day trip?

Day 14 - Return Flight from Dublin (6 am)

OR I could reverse the route & go Dublin to Galway by Airport bus & pick up rental car, then do Southwest & return car to Galway & bus back to Dublin . Any opinions on which would be best?

Any other itinerary suggestions or comments?

Dingle is also my favourite peninsula, closely followed by Beara. However, please don't "write-off" Ring of Kerry. You don't "have" to spend a day driving around the Ring. There's lots more to see/do in this area (Ring of Kerry/Iveragh Peninsula - the "Ring" is the drive around the Iveragh Peninsula):

Just uploaded this short video to youtube, on Bus Eireann from Tralee to Dingle. October 29, 2012. Doesn't get much better than this.

You're welcome on bus tip. I only went to Dingle and it was fabulous.

Don't be too worried about driving. The first day took getting used to but fine after that. Drivers were more aggressive and roads busier in Chicago than any roads in Ireland. Many roads are small but take your time. FYI- we rented from Dan Dooley, they asked if we wanted to rent a gps, we said no then we were told one was included in the car anyway. You will have a grea time. Keep following the forums for good ideas.

Sarina G, you are right! I don't have to do all of the Ring or all of the Beara. I can decide later if it is going to be too much. There are plenty of alternatives. Does anyone know how I can find a local person to give us an escorted tour of the Ring of Kerry? That might be an option.

After considering the options, I'm going with Sarnia G itinerary. I would pick up a rental in Galway & drop off in Killarney. I can do this with a couple of companies. The only problem is my drop off day is on Sunday and all major car rental places in Killarney are closed on Sunday & also close early on Saturday. II'll need to adjust the itinerary, either expanding/changing the rental by one day & spending one less day in Dublin, or turning the car back in early and hiring a local driver for Sunday.

If I extend my rental, I could spend an extra day in either Galway, Dingle or Kenmare. I would probably enjoy my time in any of those places. as opposed to Dublin. I could stay an extra day in Galway & take the cruise to Cliffs of Moer, etc. Any other suggestions about options will be appreciated.

Ramblingbadge, I am aware that most rental cars incluude GPS, but some have complained that the GPS included with the rental cars leave something to be desired. Also, I am used to Operation of my Garmin, so I plan to load the latest Ireland map info and take it along, just to be safe.

Tony2phones, thanks for the link on Beara. Awesome! I don't know how I missed that in my research.

Probably because some eejit at TA did away with the Beara forum and linked all the contents to the location of village unknown to all but the locals.
